The Massachusetts Minutemen were embarrassed on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Northern Illinois Huskies by a score of 63-0. UMass trailed 35-0 at halftime and never really had a shot more than a couple of minutes into the game.
The Minutemen are still winless this season, and the loss drops them to 0-5 in the MAC. Northern Illinois, on the other hand, is now 9-1 with a perfect 6-0 mark against conference foes.
The offensive numbers for NIU are pretty astounding. They rushed the ball 49 times as a team, running for 332 yards and six touchdown scores. Starting quarterback Jordan Lynch was 15-for-19 on his pass attempts for 191 yards and two touchdown strikes.
UMass turned the ball over four times. Surprisingly, they only had two penalties called against them for a total of 20 yards. As a team, their offensive numbers weren't too bad, but they were unable to reach the end zone even against NIU's second- and third-string defense.
The Minutemen will look to end their skid next weekend when they travel to Akron.
