The UMass Minutemen head on the road on Saturday, visiting the Northern Illinois Huskies in search of their first win. UMass is 0-8, including 0-4 in Mid-American conference, while the Huskies are 8-1 and undefeated in their five MAC games.
Both the Minutemen offense and defense have had significant problems in 2012. The offense has scored 14 points or less in six of their games, while the defense is giving up an average of 41.8 points per game. Freshman quarterback Mike Wegzyn is averaging just 151 yards per game, with four touchdowns and seven interceptions on the season. The running game hasn't been able to bail him out, with Michael Cox, the team's leading rusher, averaging just 61 yards per game.
The defense will have their hands full with Northern Illinois. The team is averaging 242 rushing yards per game, good for 12th in the nation. The defense is nearly top 25, allowing an average of 19.9 points per game.
