The New England Revolution dropped yet another home result, this time to the Montreal Impact as Sanna Nyassi's brilliant goal held up for a 1-0 loss. It was the third defeat on the trot for the Revs, who haven't won in six games.

The New England Revolution welcomed the Montreal Impact to Gillette Stadium on Sunday night hoping to mark the Canadian club's first-ever visit to Foxboro with a win. Instead, they extended a season-worst winless streak to six games - including a three-game losing streak - with a 1-0 home loss thanks to a moment of brilliance from Sanna Nyassi.

"It's the third game in a row we've made a mistake and it's come down and cost us," said head coach Jay Heaps after the match. "[It's] heartbreaking. Disappointing. Not good enough. We're struggling to find the way the way a little bit and it's a really bad loss at home."

Nyassi, who is the twin brother of Revs' winger Sainey Nyassi, capitalized on a Benny Feilhaber turnover and turned a box-to-box sprint into one of the best goals of the MLS season. After nicking the ball off of Feilhaber just outside his own box, the Gambian winger sprinted full steam ahead across the entire pitch, nutmegging A.J. Soares and then dripping a shot past Reis and into the back of the net.

"He just put a great move, I closed him down, I was showing him to the outside to his left foot, and he did this real quick little touch through my legs, and then he just blasted it upper V," said Soares. "Sometimes you just look back and say ‘that was a great goal.'"

Despite a first half where Montreal had the better of play statistically, the match was really one that was dominated by the Revolution both through the midfield and in the attack. New England struck the crossbar twice in the first half through Chris Tierney and Saer Sene, and nearly opened the second half with a goal when Ryan Guy almost headed the ball in over a stranded Troy Perkins.

Unfortunately, the Revs couldn't capitalize on any of their chances, and despite a solid defensive effort, they were undone by one critical mistake. It's a theme that has become all too common in the last month and a half.

"I thought we started the game pretty well and created enough chances to score a goal and we couldn't get that bounce in the moment," said midfielder Clyde Simms. "It seems like when we do make mistakes we're punished."

Officiating took center stage in the 74th minute when a Montreal defender Jeb Brovsky appeared to knock a Ryan Guy cross behind for a corner kick with an outstretched arm. Replays showed definite contact with the hand and by all appearances it was a blown call.

Montreal out-fouled the Revolution ten to six, and though they received three yellow cards for their trouble, players and coaches on the New England bench were left feeling as though the players weren't getting the protection they deserve as Patrice Bernier escaped a second yellow card for a rough challenge on Feilhaber - the same player he'd fouled in the seventh minute to earn his first caution.

"Maybe if Bernier is sent off for his two really bad tackles, you know, maybe that helps the fouling stop," said Soares. "Benny almost had to go off the field twice; that's unacceptable."

For the Revolution, the chance to turn things around doesn't get any easier, as the next two matches will be away to Chicago and Columbus. New England has won just one game away from home and sport a dismal 1-8-2 record when not in the friendlier confines of Foxboro.

The New England Revolution entertained the Montreal Impact on Sunday night hoping for their first win in five games, but instead find themselves in a familiar position: trailing. A brilliant individual effort from Sanna Nyassi resulted in a go-ahead goal, giving the Impact a 1-0 lead at Gillette Stadium.

Nyassi received the ball back in his own end and took off. The Gambian speedster took it over the center line unchallenged before A.J. Soares finally stepped to him. But a quick touch from the winger turned Soares far too easily, and Nyassi continued on. Chris Tierney tried to come across from his left-back position and tackle the ball off of Nyassi's feet, but again the Impact midfielder was too quick, nicking the ball away and finding himself clear in on goal. His drive caught the hand of Matt Reis but breezed through it and into the back of the net.

The New England Revolution had the better of the play, but the Montreal Impact held on for the first 45 minutes as both teams enter the half deadlocked at zero. New England saw two great efforts on goal denied by the crossbar and the post.

Felipe Martins had the first chance of the match in the very first minute, ripping a daisycutter from outside the box that Matt Reis handled comfortably. Impact midfielder Patrice Bernier then went in the book in the seventh minute for a brutally late challenge on Benny Feilhaber that left the Revs midfielder shaken up.

The Revs took over from there. Lee Nguyen nearly opened the scoring in the 30th minute with a rip from about 25 yards that flashed just over the bar. Then, in the 36th, Chris Tierney skipped across the top of the box and tried to curl in a cross with the outside of his left foot. The ball skipped through the area and missed everybody, but it was curling so wickedly that it looked destined for the back of the net, but was denied by the far post.

Saer Sene had the last great chance of the half. Nguyen, Jerry Bengtson, and Sene were on a quick counterattack, and Nguyen played an excellent cross-field ball past Bengtson, finding Sene charging into the area. The Frenchman took the ball down with his left before opening his hips and trying to curl one past Troy Perkins. He had the keeper beat, but not the crossbar.

The preferred tactic for the Impact has appeared to be "beat the heck out of Lee Nguyen," as the Revolution midfielder has endured more than his share of rough challenges and physical encounters, most of which have not been recognized by the referee. New England has struggled to put good passing sequences together, as evidenced by their holding only 40.5% possession in the half.

Despite injury concerns, Jay Heaps appears to have felt comfortable enough in his roster to trot out a full-strength lineup for Sunday night's clash against the Montreal Impact. The New England Revolution are fighting to end a five-game winless streak that dates back to the second week of July and includes a loss to the Impact in Montreal.

Both A.J. Soares and Kevin Alston were listed as questionable in Friday's injury report, but it would appear that the extra day of rest did them some good as both will take the pitch on Sunday night as starters. Having a full-strength first-choice back line could be crucial to the Revs' hopes of containing the Montreal attack.

Jerry Bengtson, who returned last week after an exciting and successful Olympic campaign with Honduras, will make his first-ever MLS start. Bengtson has made two appearances for the Revolution since signing, scoring a goal on his debut against New York in July.

The New England Revolution are welcoming the Montreal Impact to Gillette Stadium for the first time in history on Sunday night as the Revs search for their first win in five matches. (TV/Radio: CSN/98.5)

The New England Revolution are looking to snap a season-worst five game winless streak as the Montreal Impact make their first-ever visit to Foxboro on Sunday night. The Revolution dropped an ugly 1-0 result to Kansas City last weekend, while the Impact are coming off an exceptional 2-0 win over Philadelphia, despite losing defender Nelson Rivas to a red card for violent conduct.

The Revs have simply got to find a way to win in this match. Montreal's away record is very bad, and their defense is atrocious, so this is definitely the match where New England's offensive weapons need to come alive. Lee Nguyen and Benny Feilhaber should have plenty of opportunities to create, giving Saer Sene a lot of chances to finish. More importantly, Jerry Bengtson has returned from a successful Olympic campaign - where he scored three goals - and should be ready to contribute. Jay Heaps hasn't let on if he will start the Honduran poacher, but Bengtson should at least make the bench.

Defensively, questions still remain over the fitness of A.J. Soares and Kevin Alston. Soares is the biggest missing piece, as his understanding with Stephen McCarthy and his leadership qualities are a big part of any success the Revs' back line has against their opponents. With the wily veteran Marco Di Vaio leading the line and highly-touted rookie Andrew Wenger healthy again, New England's defense will be tormented all match by some real attacking talent, and they will need to be extra careful not to get burned by it at home.

Apart from Alston and Soares, the injury report does not look too threatening. New arrival Blair Gavin is still out as he recovers from the same hamstring issue that has plagued his entire career, while Alec Purdie also remains out, as he has been for the last few weeks. Bobby Shuttleworth is recovering from a knee sprain and will not feature on the bench.

New England's all-time record against Montreal is the same as its 2012 record against the Impact: 0-1-0. This will be the second meeting between the two sides in MLS history; the last came just a few weeks ago when the Revs were beaten 2-1 on goals by Patrice Bernier and Sanna Nyassi.

The match will be televised live on CSN starting at 7 PM. 98.5 The Sports Hub will handle the radio call.
