Eddie Johnson of the Seattle Sounders made himself an unlikely hero of the 2012 MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday night. In the 91st minute of play, Johnson scored a third goal for the MLS team, sealing a 3-2 win over Chelsea FC, the defending European champs.

Johnson's goal was not the prettiest of scores, especially compared to the play on Chris Pontius' goal that tied the game. A deflection off the foot of David Luiz put it in the net for Johnson's goal, turning the former Fullham bench player into the night's highlight.

David Beckham hit a long ball to Dwayne De Rosario to get behind the Chelsea defenders. De Rosario fed his D.C. United teammate, Pontius, to tie the game at 73 minutes. Chris Wondolowski, the league's leading scorer, opened the scoring for the MLS team.

The best of MLS will take on the European Champions on Wednesday night as Chelsea FC visits PPL Park in Chester, PA for the 2012 MLS All-Star Game. (TV: ESPN2/ESPN3)

The MLS All-Star squad will face off against European champions Chelsea FC on Wednesday night at PPL Park in Chester, Pennsylvania. The clash will be a rematch of the 2006 All-Star game in Chicago when the best in MLS defeated the Blues 1-0 in front of a sellout crowd.

The MLS squad is highlighted by superstars including Landon Donovan, David Beckham, and Thierry Henry. This year's MLS captain Dwayne De Rosario has some more fairly intimate knowledge of his opponents, as he was the player who scored the match's lone goal in 2006. DeRo and company will have their hands full facing off against a star-studded lineup that will feature players like Frank Lampard, Eden Hazard, Michael Essien, and Ashley Cole, all of whom have big-time club and international experience.

Wednesday night's match will be the ninth time in the league's history that the all-star team will take on international competition. MLS is 6-2-1 in these exhibitions, with both losses coming in the last two years to Manchester United. In 2009, the All-stars also drew with England's Everton FC, but ended up losing on penalty kicks.

Previous to those matches, the MLS All-Stars had defeated opponents that include Fulham FC, CD Chivas Guadalajara, West Ham United, and Celtic FC.

The 2012 All-Star squad was selected in four phases. A media panel made 114 players available for selection, and the final roster was then picked through a combination of fan voting, and coach and commissioner selections. The team is coached by D.C. United head coach Ben Olsen, who will be assisted by Philadelphia Union coach John Hackworth. The San Jose Earthquakes lead the field with four all-star selections, while Sporting Kansas City comes in a close second with three.

The match will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and ESPN 3. Kick off is at 8:30 PM EST.
