Rob Gronkowski and the New England Patriots have agreed to a six-year deal that will make him the highest-paid tight end in NFL history, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter on Friday.

Schefter reports that Gronkowski signed a contract that will pay him $54 million over six years. It's unclear as of now whether that contract will kick in immediately or after Gronkowski's rookie deal expires. Gronkowski is set to make $540,000 in 2012 and $575,000 in 2013.

But the 23-year old obviously has out-performed his rookie deal, finishing the 2011 season with 90 catches for 1,327 yards and 17 touchdowns to establish the tight end records for most receiving yards and most touchdown receptions. He also added one touchdown on the ground for a total of 18 scores.
