The Bruins used up all their offensive power against the Maple Leafs it seemed, as they could only buy one goal in tonight's 2-1 loss against the San Jose Sharks.

Heading into the third period, they were down 1-0 with 20 minutes of hockey left to play and plenty of motivation to score a goal. However, that seemed to end quickly after Daniel Winnik scored his first goal in 44 games-his 6th goal this season-to put the Sharks up 2-0 less than three minutes into the final frame.

Bruins captain Zdeno Chara tried to get some life back on his team, but it was too little too late with 4:15 left to go in the game, and the Bruins fell for the first time in three games.

Earlier in the game, the Sharks took an early 1-0 lead thanks to forward Joe Pavelski who now has 27 goals this season, and who capitalized off a number of Bruins mistakes early on.

Tim Thomas made 25 saves on 27 shots and kept his team in the game for the majority of the time they were on the ice. The B's still were outshot by an absurd amount, 27-17, but they were able to put up more than the Sharks in the third period.

Boston continues it's Western road trip, and will play the Kings on Saturday.

Tim Thomas seemed to do every except score for the Bruins in the second period, fending off 12 Sharks shots in the middle frame without letting one go to the back of his net.

Meanwhile, the Bruins still look clueless and picked up only four more shots on net for a total of nine on the night. The shots on goal heavily favor San Jose 20-9 through 40 minutes.

Less than five minutes into the second period, Tim Thomas was forced to make two creative saves against the Sharks, both which could have very easily been in the back of the net--first on Dan Boyle and a stacked pads save against Martin Havlat just a minute later.

The B's did have an opportunity on the power play, with Justin Braun going to the sin bin for tripping, but could not convert on it. In fact, even that looked anemic.

The Bruins have fewer shots on net than the Maple Leafs had on the Bruins after two periods on Monday.

Though the Bruins had a rhythm going back in Boston, it might have been left behind on the East coast as they looked sloppy and disoriented, falling behind 1-0 after the first 20 minutes of play.

It didn't even take four minutes for San Jose to put a goal in the back of the net, and it came off a couple of unfortunate plays and bad decisions by the B's. A turnover in the Bruins own zone, led the Sharks to continue an attack on goaltender Tim Thomas. Though he was able to save a couple of the shots, the rebounds weren't cleared and San Jose forward Joe Pavelski put the puck through, giving the Sharks the 1-0 lead.

Though this is only the second time these two teams have played each other this year, both games started out in similar fashion--eerily similar.

Back on October 22, Pavelski scored the first goal of the game, less than two minutes into the game at that time. That was the only goal scored during the first period in that game as well.

The one large difference was the opportunities and shots on goal. The Sharks held Boston to just five shots this first period, while the B's let only eight shots through to Thomas.

Two wins at home have given a renewed sense of confidence to the previously flailing Bruins, and they hope to continue that swagger into tonight's game against the San Jose Sharks.

The Bruins seem to have shaken the ugly from their game at least for the time being, picking up back-to-back wins in their two most recent games against the Philadelphia Flyers and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

With a shootout win against Philly and a convincing 8-0 disposal of the Leafs, it looks like the Bruins have finally found some of their rhythm again, and at the right time of the season.

They head out west for a three game road trip in California where they will take on the Sharks tonight, the Kings on Saturday and a quick turnaround against the Ducks on Sunday.

But as they have said time and time again, they are going to take each game one at a time.

San Jose took the only game so far this season back on October 22, where Joe Thornton and the rest of the team battled through and won 4-2 in Boston. The B's had battled back from being down 2-0, and tied the game at two a piece before the Sharks picked up the heartbreaking goal and the empty netter in the third period.

But, with two good wins behind them, and three road games in front of them, the B's have found a new confidence that can help carry them into tonight's game.

Look to that first line of Tyler Seguin, Milan Lucic and David Krejci again tonight, as Lucic and Seguin are the only two with goals this season against this team.

The puck drops at 10:30 p.m. EDT and will be broadcast live on NESN and aired on 98.5 the Sports Hub.

Prediction: The Sharks are a team with a tremendous amount of talent, up and down the lineup. In fact, you could make a case for them having the greatest "on-paper" roster in the Western Conference. However, talent doesn’t always translate into winning. As of late, it seems that the Sharks have been playing with an almost nonchalant attitude, something that should be the farthest thing from the mind of a team engaged in a heated battle for a playoff spot. If you’ve seen any recent San Jose games, you’d know exactly what I’m talking about. Look for the B’s to come out with a relatively easy win to kick off their three-game Western road swing.
