BOSTON -- After up-ending the Toronto Maple Leafs in an exciting Tuesday night contest, the Bruins were hoping to finally put together their first two-game winning streak since early January. They would attempt this feat with the Northeast division rival Buffalo Sabres in town for a show-down at TD Garden.

It didn't look good early after the B's fell behind through one period of play, thanks to a tally from Sabres' captain Jason Pominville.

"I was able to let one go and it found a hole. It was nice to get the lead." -- Jason Pominville

However, the B's would bounce back in the second and third periods to collect a 3-1 victory on home ice and secure their first winning streak since January 10th to the 12th. Strong efforts throughout the lineup were key to Thursday's victory as it truly was a complete performance from the Black and Gold on Thursday at the Garden.

"You get goals from guys who usually don’t score, and you need secondary scoring to win games and we did that tonight and it helped us win." -- Johnny Boychuk

The win was one of great importance for a Bruins' squad in search of the "mojo" it enjoyed both during last season's playoffs and during their impressive run through November and December of this season. The B's will look to move forward and build on these last two victories.

"It's more about us picking up points and picking up momentum as we go forward. . We have to hold ourselves accountable. We have to have a certain standard of play every night. Going forward, it was two good wins and three good games in a row but this time of year we have to turn the page, move on and continue that effort." -- Gregory Campbell

Next up for the Black and Gold will be a Saturday matinee contest against the Washington Capitals, a game that will surely have playoff implications for both squads. "Every game is a challenge now, no matter who you're playing" remarked Campbell after Thursday's win as he and his team begin to focus on Alex Ovechkin and the Caps.

In the third period, the B's came out with a bit more pep in their step as they continued their quest for the ever-elusive two-game winning streak. At the 5:31 mark of the frame, it was sensational sophomore Tyler Seguin who would beat Jhonas Enroth upstairs, but was unfortunately denied by the stone cold iron of the crossbar. It was the second time of the game that the B's had been denied a goal by one of the three metal bars surrounding the twine after a Dennis Seidenberg second period snapshot was also stopped by the left post.

After registering only three shots on goal in the first 11:32 of the third, Sabres bench boss Lindy Ruff opted to utilize his timeout. The timeout would not pay immediate dividends for Buffalo as only 1:24 later, the Bruins jumped ahead on Johnny Boychuk's fourth tally of the season. The Edmonton native jumped on a loose puck in the Buffalo zone and blasted one past Enroth to give Boston it's first lead of the night.

The B's extended their lead 2:58 later when David Krejci capitalized on a 2-on-1 break to pot his 18th goal of the campaign.

Boston would hold on to their lead as time expired in the third to pick up a 3-1 victory and record their first set of back-to-back wins since early January.

The second frame would play out a lot like the first for a Bruins squad that continued to dominate play, but simply could not solve Buffalo's back-up netminder Jhonas Enroth for the better part of the period.

The Bruins were finally able to break through when fourth line pivot Gregory Campbell would deflect a Shawn Thornton slapshot past the Sabres' Swedish 'tender to even the score at one goal a piece. The game-tying tally came as a result of a blueline turnover from old friend and former Canucks' pivot Cody Hodgson.

For Campbell, it was his seventh mark of the season and his first since January 22 in Philadelphia. The goal also snapped a nineteen-game pointless streak for the B's gritty centerman out of London, Ontario.

Boston out-shot Buffalo by a slim 9-8 margin during the middle frame and held a 22-14 SOG advantage over the course of the first forty minutes of action.

On Thursday evening the Boston Bruins played host to the Buffalo Sabres in the fifth of six meetings between these two Northeast division foes for the 2011-’12 campaign. The B’s were out to put a stop to a streaking Sabres team that has caught fire recently, in hopes of putting together a last ditch run for the playoffs. Boston was also looking to put together their first set of back-to-back wins since January 12.

Despite more than doubling the Sabres first period shot total, the Black and Gold found themselves down a goal as the two squads went to the rooms for the first intermission.

It was Buffalo captain Jason Pominville who would give his team a 1-0 advantage at the 16:39 mark of the opening frame when he beat Tim Thomas glove side with a slapshot from the left circle. The score would remain 1-0 through the end of the period despite a power-play for each team.

The injury-laden Bruins are hoping to grin and bear it as they try to come up with a win against the Sabres, with the help of a couple new faces on the bench.

It's been less than two weeks since their last meeting, and you can bet the Bruins are looking to oust the Sabres after taking a 2-1 loss to them back on February 24.

But, as it's been a trend in the second half of the season for the B's, it won't be easy, as the injuries continue to pile up.

The Bruins were able to come up with a couple of really effective lines, after losing Nathan Horton and Rich Peverley. Moving Seguin up with Milan Lucic and David Krejci, has proven to be a move well worth it, and then, all of a sudden the last two games, Jordan Caron has woken up with his linemate Benoit Pouliot and both have been extremely effective for their team.

However, things can never be that easy.

Pouliot missed the majority of Tuesday's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs with a lower body injury and did not practice with the team yesterday. Head coach Claude Julien said he was "day-to-day," and they would make a decision tonight based on how Pouliot feels.

Just in case, the Bruins recalled forward Max Sauve from Providence.

While Pouliot sat out of practice, the Bruins saw another new face on the ice--Marty Turco. Turco cleared waivers and was signed by Boston on Monday and participated in practice. Though he will not be able to play in playoffs, he will be able to take a little bit of the strain off Tim Thomas, after Tuukka Rask was felled with a groin injury last week.

Tonight, the puck drops at 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on NESN and aired on 98.5 The Sports Hub.
