This season, the Bruins have outscored their opponents 57-23 in the third period. Despite being down 3-2 heading into the final frame, they showed just how accurate those numbers are, posting three goals without giving one up to the Jets to earn a 5-3 win.

Just eight seconds into the third period, Nathan Horton gave the Bruins a chance early on, netting his second goal of the game to tie the game 3-3. Similar to his first goal in the first period, he again crashed the net and put it in back door, fooling Ondrej Pavelec after taking a pass cross ice from David Krejci.

Horton now has five goals in four games and looks like he's finally settled into the season once again.

Tyler Seguin continued the scoring trend, and at the 3:06 mark, he netted his 17th goal of the season after he deeked and backhanded his goal up over the blocker of Pavelec. He also extended his point-streak to to five games.

Benoit Pouliot once again contributed for the Bruins as well, netting the team's fifth goal of the night after taking his own rebound and shoving it past Pavelec after Andrew Ladd was sent to the penalty box for interference at 6:41.

While each individual put the puck in, it was a team effort through and through. The most talked about goal came in the second period though, after Bruins forward Shawn Thornton was hooked while streaking down the slot to the net.

Not only did the ref see it, but he called for a penalty shot--the first penalty shot Shawn Thornton has been awarded ever in his career, NHL or AHL.

But while he was nervous, he also knew exactly what he was going to do. He did a little dangle in front of the net and backhanded it over Pavelec's right shoulder to tie the game 2-2 with 14:44 left to play in the second period--a move his teammates were ecstatic about.

"You probably don't believe me, but I actually practice that move a bunch, we do a lot of shootouts during practice," Thornton said. "It used to work until Tuukka [Rask] knew it. So after they called for [the penalty shot], I looked at Tuukka and he was shaking his head yes to try it so, why not?"

Thornton came back just five minutes later and dropped gloves with former Bruin Mark Stuart after Stuart allegedly ran him in at the Jets goal. Thornton said he took offense to that and knew that Stuart would stand up to him.

"He's a friend of mine, a character guy," Thornton said. "He's a guy that I was sad to leave here, but at the same time he knew that i would probably be pushing back and he's always been a guy to stand up for himself.

"I'll still buy him a beer after this. No hard feelings."

Speaking of former Bruins, Blake Wheeler added a goal for the Jets, earning his ninth goal of the season. Also scoring for Winnipeg were Andrew Ladd and Eric Fehr.

Shawn Thornton made part of history after he was sent to center ice to take his first ever penalty shot. Earlier in the first period the Jets had a penalty shot opportunity where Rask was able to make the save.

In the entire history of the Boston Bruins, that had never happened before. Never once did a Bruins game have a penalty shot both for and against.

And fortunately for Thornton, he made it count.

He dangled his way down to Ondrej Pavelec and put a nifty backhanded shot over his blocker to tie the game back up 2-2. But perhaps what made it more impressive was that the Bruins were shorthanded at the time of the penalty shot. The Jets were afforded a 5-on-3 advantage and Thornton had just been released from the penalty box, while Andrew Ference was still in there. Thornton took the puck and brought it into the zone, and while he got a shot near the net, he was hooked and was awarded the shot.

Minutes later, he almost had another goal, but was knocked out of the way by former Bruins Mark Stuart. Thornton immediately got up and proceeded to grab Stuart by the sweater and throw down the gloves. He just needs the assist to complete the Gordie Howe hat trick.

Speaking of former Bruins, Blake Wheeler gave the Jets the lead at the beginning of the period, deflecting a shot past Rask. Eric Fehr added another one at 11:11 to give the Jets the 3-2 lead.

Well, there was certainly a change in pace after Saturday's game against the Canucks, and while both teams managed to get some good scoring chances, it wasn't particularly pretty.

However, both teams took a goal back into the locker rooms and the game's tied 1-1 after the first period.

The Jets had a chance early on, just 5:57 into the game. The Jets crashed on Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask, and Rask was forced to make a tough save. But then Seidenberg was called for a penalty, hooking down Chris Thorburn, and Thorburn was awarded with a penalty shot.

Rask stoned him then, too.

But with 3:07 left in the period, Zach Bogosian scored his fourth goal of the season after the Bruins let a 3-on-1 get out of hand. The Jets swarmed Rask and passed the puck back out to the point. The shot from the blueline looked like it might have deflected off something and past Rask, but it put the Jets up 1-0.

Nathan Horton came back less than three minutes later, and with 40 seconds left to go in the period, took a feed from Milan Lucic and put it back back door to tie the game at one a piece.

**UPDATE** Jets goal was officially changed and was scored by Andrew Ladd.

The Bruins will have their hands full tonight after losing Brad Marchand for five games, and facing off against one of the only teams that has found a way to beat them since November -- the Winnipeg Jets (TV/Radio: NESN/WBZ-FM).

It's old news now, but Bruins forward Brad Marchand will be out for five games before being able to play with his team again, after Brendan Shanahan suspended him for a clipping call back on Saturday against the Vancouver Canucks.

But the B's have had to move on, and based on the lines during the morning skate, Benoit Pouliot will be taking the place of Marchand for now on the second line with Patrice Bergeron and Tyler Seguin. Pouliot replaced Marchand on that line the game prior to Vancouver, when the B's ousted the Flames 9-0. Marchand was out with flu-like symptoms.

In that game, Pouliot put up three assists on his line.

"Yeah, well it says that we've got depth and we back each other up when we‟re missing one of our best players," Pouliot said after that game. "Some guys needed to step up, and obviously props to our goalies. Our goalies have been playing awesome all year long and we just keep scoring goals and sometimes 6-0 after the 2nd but we still need to push hard and we don't want to stop scoring."

That push and drive needs to continue tonight as the Bruins will play host to the Winnipeg Jets--one of the only teams that has given them some significant struggles this year.

The Bruins are 1-1-0 against them, and this will be the first time this season the Bruins will play them in a non-back-to-back game situation.

The game will be broadcast live on NESN and aired on 98.5 The Sports Hub and the puck drops at 7 p.m.
