Jeff Green underwent heart surgery to repair an aortic aneurysm on Monday, an ailment that will sideline him for the entire 2011-2012 NBA season. Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers said the surgery went well, according to ESPN Boston.

Green signed a one-year deal to return to the Boston Celtics, where he was traded from the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange or Kendrick Perkins at the trade deadline last season, but was unable to pass his physical and was held out of training camp. The team ultimately revealed that Green had an aneurysm, which would force him to miss the year.

Danny Ainge and the Celtics withdrew their qualifying offer, making Green an unrestricted free agent upon his return. Doctors have said that Green will be able to resume his playing career after he fully recovers sometime next season.

Mickael Pietrus told reporters he expects to make his Boston Celtics debut on Wednesday against the Dallas Mavericks after participating in his first Celtics practice on Monday.

Pietrus had been resting to recuperate from offseason knee surgery, which led to a failed physical examination in December that nixed a trade to the Toronto Raptors. The 6-6, 215-pound wing is expected to provide the Celtics with a versatile defensive presence and an ability to knock down three-pointers.

Boston's second unit has been especially starved for scoring lately, and Pietrus should be able to help spread the floor in ways that Avery Bradley and Marquis Daniels cannot. Pietrus is expected to take some minutes away from Bradley and Daniels, who are respectively shooting 33.3 percent and 27.1 percent with one made three-pointer combined. Pietrus can play either shooting guard or small forward.

Mickael Pietrus is reportedly on the practice floor with the Boston Celtics, taking part in practice with the second unit, at practice on Tuesday in Waltham.

Pietrus was signed to a veteran minimum deal after being waived by the Phoenix Suns after they failed to trade him to the Toronto Raptors.

After signing with the Celtics, Pietrus has been with the team but has not been able to make his debut, as he is recovering from offseason knee surgery.

Pietrus has averaged 8.5 points and 3.1 rebounds in eight NBA seasons. Last year, Pietrus averaged 7.2 points and 2.2 boards in 57 games split with the Orlando Magic and Suns.
