Adrian Gonzalez provided all of the offense for the American League on one swing of the bat. Unfortunately, it was just a solo home run in the fourth inning, and it wouldn't be enough to fend off the National League, which prevailed 5-1 in the 82nd annual MLB All-Star Game at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona on Tuesday night. Watch the video on MLB.com by clicking here.

Gonzalez was 1-for-2 in the game with the solo home run, and was the only other Red Sox player aside from Kevin Youkilis (1-for-1) to get a hit in the game. David Ortiz and Jacoby Ellsbury were both 0-for-2 in the game. Josh Beckett was scratched from his appearance after problems arose during warm-ups.

The 2011 MLB All-Star Game is scoreless through three innings, but we’ve already had a local storyline take shape, with Boston Red Sox ace Josh Beckett being scratched from his scheduled appearance in the second inning due to a problem in warm-ups.

Beckett reportedly felt something in his left knee, which he tweaked in his last start with the Red Sox, while warming up for his appearance, and was subsequently scratched. No official word has been released on what went wrong.

Adrian Gonzalez and David Ortiz are both 0-for-1 after their first at-bats.

The NL has the game’s only hit, which came from Lance Berkman. Roy Halladay pitched two scoreless innings, striking out one, for the NL. Halladay’s teammate, Cliff Lee, also tossed a scoreless frame in the second.

On the AL side, Jared Weaver pitched a scoreless inning in the first, walking one and striking out one. David Robertson tossed a scoreless innings as well for the AL, surrendering one hit. In the third inning, Michael Pineda struck out two batters for the AL.

The midsummer classic is finally upon us, and the Boston Red Sox will be well represented at the 2011 MLB All-Star Game with Adrian Gonzalez and David Ortiz starting and Josh Beckett, Kevin Youkilis and Jacoby Ellsbury making the team as reserves. Jon Lester was also named to the team, but will not play due to a lat strain.

Gonzalez and Ortiz were both voted in as starters, with Gonzo batting .354 with 17 home runs and 77 RBI while Ortiz is hitting .304 with 19 home runs and 55 RBI. Youkilis is batting .285 with 13 home runs and 63 RBI, Ellsbury is hitting .316 with 11 homers and 49 RBI and Beckett has a record of 8-3 with a 2.27 ERA and 94 strikeouts.

Lester, who was named to the team despite his current status on the disabled list, has a team-leading 10-4 record with a 3.31 ERA and 110 strikeouts this season.

There's no question that all six are deserving, but how many will actually play? Gonzalez and Ortiz definitely will, and Youkilis and Ellsbury should see playing time for a few innings, but Beckett has said that he doesn't know if he will pitch. Whatever happens, it should be a great night for Red Sox fans and baseball aficionados around the nation.

The 2011 MLB All-Star Game is just hours away, with the best of the American League and National League ready to vie for dominance, and home-field advantage in the World Series.

Date/Time: Tuesday, July 12, 8:00 p.m. EST

Location: Chase Field, Phoenix Arizona -- 2011 will mark the first time the Arizona Diamondbacks have hosted the event since they joined the league as an expansion team in 1998.

Broadcast Information: The 2011 All-Star Game will be aired on FOX, with Joe Buck providing play-by-play and Tim McCarver doing color commentary. ESPN Radio will also broadcast the game, with Jon Sciambi and Chris Singleton providing coverage.

All-Star Game History: The National League currently holds the advantage over the American League, with 41 wins, 38 losses, and just a pair of ties since the event was first held in 1933. The All-Star Game has been marked with periods of clear dominance, such as the 60's and 70's when the NL lost just twice, and more recently an undefeated stretch for the American League that lasted from 1997 to 2009. The National League broke the streak last year, however, and could start their own period of dominance tonight.

In a move that's almost as meaningless as an All-Star nod itself, the disabled Jon Lester was named to the American League All-Star team roster today, when Felix Hernandez pitched for Seattle, thereby making him ineligible to pitch on Tuesday.

Lester, of course, won't be able to pitch in the game since he's on the disabled list, so Toronto's Ricky Romero will take his place.

It's the second consecutive All-Star selection for the Red Sox' ace southpaw, who is 10-4 with a 3.31 ERA in his 18 starts on the season.

Lester will attend the All-Star Game with full honors and will be introduced before the Midsummer Classic, but will watch the game from the dugout or some posh suite, or maybe even from the pool at Chase Field in Phoenix.

The final roster will be firmed out tomorrow, and at this point, it's looking like the odds on John Lackey or any other starter with a pulse joining former teammate Jered Weaver are pretty good.
