Ray Allen, the 10-time All-Star and the NBA's all-time leader in three-pointers made, has exercised his player option, which will keep him with the Boston Celtics through the end of next season, according to a CSNNE.com report.

Allen is entering the second year of his two-year, $20 million deal. In 2010-11, Allen scored 1,321 points (16.5 PPG) and had 274 rebounds (3.4 RPG) and 216 assists (2.7 APG) in 80 regular season games with the Celtics.

There's no doubt that Allen would have drawn interest from many NBA teams this offseason, but with a pending lockout looming, Allen played it safe.

And when you throw in the fact that the yet-to-be-hammered-out Collective Bargaining Agreement among the player's union and the owners will likely include lowered salaries, that adds even more uncertainty to the kind of salary a veteran with his talents could have demanded. (via A. Sherrod Blakely, CSNNE.com)

Allen has 22,286 career points in 15 NBA seasons, ranking him 24th all-time. Allen has played with the Celtics for the past three seasons and was a key member of the 2008 team that won the franchise's league-leading 17th NBA championship.
