More from Tuesday night's Celtics-Kings game, brought to you by Jeremy Gottlieb, staff writer at Patriots Daily.

Kevin Garnett never stops talking. Rajon Rondo's on-court instructions are always audible, even on TV. Doc Rivers' bellows from the bench have been commonplace since he's been the Celtics coach. But Ray Allen? He's a silent assassin.

At least he usually is. Until he isn't, like last night during halftime of the C's 95-90 win over the Sacramento Kings. The Celts saw a seven-point, first quarter lead not only vanish, but transform into a nine-point, halftime deficit, thanks in no small part to the team's second unit, which allowed the home team to score 34 points and shoot 67 percent from the floor while only managing 18 points of its own on the other end. Allen, who will talk when he needs to both on the court and on the Celts bench, decided he'd seen enough so when the team got to the locker room after the second quarter, he unloaded.

"Ray doesn't really say too much at halftime," Celts captain Paul Pierce told the Boston Globe after the game. "But he kind of lit us up there and it woke guys up. Guys responded."

Did they ever. On the heels of that rather nauseating second quarter, the Celts would allow the Kings to shoot just 40 percent for the remainder of the game. Meanwhile, Allen backed up his words with a stellar offensive performance. He scored 22 points while connecting on 9-of-15 shots, 4-of-7 from beyond the three-point line. It was vintage Ray and it improved the Celtics record to a most impressive 14-0 when he scores 20 or more points.

"It's funny because after the game, they said, ‘Man, we knew we were messing up because you stepped up and screamed on everybody and you don't normally do that.'" Allen would tell the Globe. "There's a time for everything."

By the way, Allen, now 35, is shooting in excess of 50 percent from the floor and sits comfortably at 46 percent from three-point range on the season, only the most efficient numbers of his 14-year career. He needs just nine more makes from long distance to break Reggie Miller's all-time record.

Recaps of Tuesday night's Celtics-Kings game, brought to you by Jeremy Gottlieb, staff writer at Patriots Daily.

A second quarter lull hardly mattered to the Celtics, who pulled away from the game but young and inexperienced Sacramento Kings in the second half en route to a 95-90 win and a 3-1 record on their four-game, West coast road trip.

Ray Allen paced the C's with 22 points (9-of-15 from the floor, 4-of-7 three-pointers) and Rajon Rondo added 17 points, 10 assists and four steals for the Celts, who improved to 37-11 with the win. Paul Pierce pitched in with 15 points, five rebounds and five assists and Glen Davis came off the bench to score 14 as Boston overcame the Kings 34-point, 67 percent shooting second quarter to sweep the season series and win its eighth straight overall against Sacramento.

Trailing by nine at the half, the Celts turned up the defense on the Kings in the third, holding the hosts to just 6-for-19 from the floor and 17 points in the third. Boston turned that halftime deficit into a three point lead after three, ultimately holding Sacramento under 25 percent from the floor in the second half. The defensive effort was also reflected in the turnover battle, with the Celts forcing 25 while committing just 16.

Rookie big man DeMarcus Cousins and reigning Rookie of the Year Tyreke Evans led the Kings with 20 points apiece. The loss snapped a string of three wins in four games for Sacramento, which fell to 12-34.

The Celtics are now off until Friday night when they return home to face the Dallas Mavericks in an ESPN nationally televised game.

Ray Allen scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed six rebounds as the Boston Celtics topped the Sacramento Kings, 95-90, at ARCO Arena on Tuesday night.

Allen made 9-of-15 shots, including 4-of-7 three pointers, and was plus-14 in 35 minutes. With his four three pointers, he is now eight three pointers away from tying retired Indiana Pacers star Reggie Miller for the most three pointers made in NBA history.

Rajon Rondo had 17 points and 10 assists for the Celtics (37-11). Paul Pierce scored 15 points and had five rebounds and five assists while Kevin Garnett registered 12 points and seven rebounds. Glen Davis scored 14 points and Kendrick Perkins added eight points and 10 rebounds for Boston.

Tyreke Evans and DeMarcus Cousins each scored 20 points for Sacramento (12-34). Donte Greene had 15 points and Beno Udrih totaled 12 points, six rebounds and six assists in the Kings' loss.

Boston outscored Sacramento, 27-20, in the first quarter but was outscored by the Kings, 34-18, in the second quarter and entered the intermission with a nine-point deficit, trailing 54-45. However, the Celtics scored 29 third-quarter points and added 21 points in the fourth quarter to stifle Sacramento and finish their four-game West Coast road trip at 3-1.

The Celtics shot 44.7% from the field (38-for-85) and 36.4% from three-point range (4-for-11). The Kings made 31-of-71 shots (43.7%) and 6-of-11 threes (54.5%). Boston finished with 43 rebounds, 23 assists, 14 steals and 15 turnovers while Sacramento amassed 36 rebounds, 18 assists, 10 steals, 12 blocks and 17 turnovers.

Boston returns to action on Friday night when it hosts Dallas on primetime television. Sacramento plays San Antonio at home in its next game on Friday night.

Preview of Tuesday night's Celtics-Kings game, brought to you by Jeremy Gottlieb, staff writer at Patriots Daily.

The Celtics wrap up their four-game, west coast swing Tuesday night in California's state capital, looking to post a 3-1 record on the trip after a meeting with the Kings. This is the second of two meeting between the Celts and Kings this season; Boston pounded Sacramento, 119-95, at TD Garden just under three weeks ago.

For the Celtics, it will be their first game since Sunday's win going away at the Lakers, in which the combination of great second half shooting (69 percent from the floor), stellar team defense on Lakers star Kobe Bryant, particularly by Ray Allen, and a general look of malaise on the part of the home team equaled a stirring, 109-96 win. It marked at least a small measure of revenge after the Celts dropped Games 6 and 7 of last year's Finals, ultimately giving the Lakers their 16th title.

But the Celts aren't looking too far ahead or jumping to any conclusions, as Paul Pierce told the Boston Herald (via CelticsBlog).

"We learned our lesson last year. I think as a group, we looked ahead a lot," Pierce said. "We're definitely not looking ahead this year because it can come down to another game 7 and hopefully we can have it on our home court."

As for the Kings, they are buried near the bottom of the Western Conference cellar at 12-33, just a game and a half behind the Minnesota Timberwolves for last place overall out west. They have shown signs of life recently, beating both the Lakers and Hornets back-to-back in their last two games. Led by second-year point guard Tyreke Evans (aka John Calipari's final one-and-done phenom at Memphis before he "vacated" that school for Kentucky) and his 17.8 points per game, and mercurial, rookie big man DeMarcus Cousins (13.5 PPG, 7.7 RPG), Sacramento is trying to rebuild as the third youngest team in the NBA.

Getting back to the idea of not looking ahead, the Celts will be trying to close out the road trip without peering too far into the future, which features home games against Dallas (Friday night), Orlando (Sunday afternoon) and a rematch with the Lakers (next Thursday night), all in the next 10 days.

The Celts (36-11) face the Kings (12-33) Tuesday night at 10 p.m. EST, on Comcast Sports Net New England.
