Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - Nick Markakis' run-scoring single in the 11th inning lifted Baltimore to a 4-3 win over Boston, snapping the Orioles' 10- game losing streak and giving Juan Samuel his first victory as the team's manager.

The Orioles blew a one-run lead in the ninth inning, when Dustin Pedroia's sacrifice fly made it a 3-3 game. But in the 11th against Hideki Okajima (2-2), Cesar Izturis worked a leadoff walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt.

Okajima intentionally walked Miguel Tejada before Markakis blooped a single into center, and Izturis raced around to score and gave Baltimore the win. It was the Orioles' first victory since May 25 against Oakland and first for Samuel, who was named the club's interim manager when Dave Trembley was fired Friday.

David Hernandez (2-5) got the victory for throwing two scoreless relief innings. The Orioles' bullpen had thrown more than 17 innings over the last four games and needed to turn in more innings Sunday in relief of Brian Matusz, who threw 117 pitches in 5 2/3 innings. The left-hander limited Boston to two runs on four hits while walking four and struck out seven.

Matt Albers, Mark Hendrickson and Jason Berken combined to hold the Red Sox off the scoreboard through the eighth inning, keeping it a 2-2 game, as Boston starter John Lackey allowed two runs in seven innings.

But in the home eighth, Baltimore plated a run against Manny Delcarmen. After Luke Scott worked a leadoff walk, Adam Jones bunted into a fielder's choice and ended up at first. Scott Moore followed with a double to right, plating Jones for a 3-2 lead.

Will Ohman entered for Baltimore in the top of the ninth and got into immediate trouble, giving up a leadoff single to Mike Cameron, who moved to second on a sacrifice and reached third on a single through the left side by Marco Scutaro.

Cameron scored when Pedroia lofted a ball to center, tying the game, and made a big defensive play in the bottom half to send it to extra innings.

After Ty Wigginton worked a walk against Jonathan Papelbon with two outs, Montanez scorched a ball to center. However, Cameron tracked the deep fly and made an over-the-shoulder catch to end the inning.

Hernandez and Okajima each pitched a scoreless 10th, and Hernandez worked around a one-out single by Darnell McDonald in the 11th to keep it a 3-3 game moving to the bottom half.

The only scoring for the majority of the game happened in the second inning. Victor Martinez hit a two-run homer for the Red Sox, and the Orioles loaded the bases with one out in the bottom half. Izturis hit an RBI single, and another run scored when Julio Lugo grounded into a fielder's choice at second.

Lackey allowed seven hits, walked three and struck out two...Martinez finished 2-for-3, the only Red Sox player with multiple hits...Moore and Scott each had two hits for Baltimore, which scored 16 runs during its losing streak...Hendrickson faced one batter in the seventh, hitting David Ortiz before Berken replaced him...Despite the win, the Orioles won for only the fourth time in their last 21 games. They have not won consecutive games since a three-game run from May 12-14 and will attempt to make it two in a row on Tuesday in the start of a three-game home series against the Yankees...The Orioles lead the season series with Boston, 5-4...The Red Sox are back in action Monday, when they begin a four-game series at Cleveland.

Sunday has brought with it a sight disappointingly unseen much in 2010 -- Mike Cameron playing center field.

Cameron, the outfielder who has played in just 16 games so far this season, made his return to the Red Sox lineup on Sunday in Baltimore after missing the past five games with soreness on the left side of his abdomen. He got the start in center, with Darnell McDonald in left field. Cameron is hopeful that this will mark the end of his lingering injury.

"Today is another steppingstone, hopefully going in the good direction. I've just got to go out and man up and see what it's all about," Cameron said before Sunday's game.

"I feel like I'm crossing a bridge, but obviously there are some things that I'm still trying to get over. The body is trying to heal from the mentality that I have of wanting to push it to play."

However, it's not just Cameron's injury healing that is a reason to celebrate his return to the lineup today. Along with McDonald and Bill Hall, the Red Sox outfield was comprised of three African-American players for the first time in over nine years (April 20, 2001: Troy O'Leary, Carl Everett and Darren Lewis), an observation not lost on Cameron:

"It's going to be kind of cool," said Cameron. "I get a chance one more time to run out here and see if I can play some baseball."

Prior to the game, Cameron expressed confidence, and said that he would add "sexiness and color."

(Sports Network) - Even with Juan Samuel now leading the way, the Baltimore Orioles are still finding themselves in the loss column.

The team will try to crack its 10-game losing skid when the Boston Red Sox take the field at Camden Yards this afternoon in the finale of a three-game set.

Last night, Jon Lester was solid over 6 1/3 shutout innings, continuing his mastery of the Orioles in an 8-2 Red Sox victory.

Lester (7-2) allowed four hits and three walks while fanning four to improve to 11-0 lifetime against the Orioles, and the Red Sox notched their seventh straight road win -- the longest such streak for the team since 2005. Lester also won his fourth straight start and has won seven straight decisions over his last nine trips to the mound.

Kevin Youkilis homered and hit a two-run double, while Darnell McDonald and Bill Hall also had two-run doubles for Boston, which has won six of its last seven overall.

Baltimore's Jeremy Guthrie (3-6) was dealt the hard-luck loss after giving up just two runs on five hits and a walk in 7 1/3 frames. Despite the defeat, Guthrie has given up just nine runs over his last five starts, spanning 33 1/3 innings.

If the Orioles are going to break out of this rut, they will need youngster Brian Matusz to lead the way. However, the 23-year-old rookie has lost six of his last eight starts and has not claimed a victory since April 18.

The last time the southpaw was on the rubber, he tossed 6 2/3 innings against the New York Yankees on Tuesday and allowed three runs -- one earned -- on six hits. It was not a terrible outing for Matusz, who also struck out five batters, but unfortunately he suffered the loss to the Bronx Bombers.

Matusz made his first career start against the Red Sox earlier this season, and in that outing the young hurler allowed three runs on six hits and three walks. Matusz lasted six innings en route to a no decision.

The Red Sox will turn to John Lackey, who might finally be turning the corner after dealing with inconsistency throughout the early stages of the season.

The veteran right-hander has won back-to-back starts and in four of his last six trips to the mound. However, while Lackey was victorious in his recent matchup against Oakland, he was not at his sharpest, as he allowed four runs on 12 hits in six innings.

This will be the 15th career start for Lackey against the O's and his second of the season. Lackey, who is 9-3 with a 3.17 ERA against Baltimore, tossed seven innings against the Orioles back in April, surrendering just three runs while striking out six batters.

Baltimore had won four straight over the Sox, including a three-game sweep at Camden Yards from April 30-May 2, before losing Friday's opener of this series. Boston is 29-8 against the Orioles in the last 37 meetings between these AL Central foes, however.
