For Houston it was a crucial victory as it pushed them into the fifth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The loss extended New England's winless streak to three games as they sit ninth in the East.

Sporting Kansas City and the San Jose Earthquakes are still atop the Eastern and Western Conferences, respectively. San Jose leads Kansas City by three points in the race for the MLS Supporters' Shield.
