Three New England Patriots defenders, including linebacker Brandon Spikes, received three separate fines for their uncalled for hits during their most recent game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, the NFL announced on Friday (via Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston).
The NFL fined Spikes $25,000 for his hit on Bills starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, which also received a personal foul penalty when it happened on Sunday with 10:36 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Fellow linebacker Jerod Mayo will also be losing $10,000 for his late hit on running back C.J. Spiller on Sunday, who was running out of bounds. The referees also caught Mayo during the game, giving the linebacker an unnecessary roughness penalty.
Combine the two aforementioned plays and that is why rookie cornerback Alfonzo Dennard will be taking a $7,875 hit to his wallet, thanks to the NFL office. Dennard hit quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick as he was running out of bounds in the second quarter.
