New England Patriots owner has been selected as the 2012 George Halas Award winner by the Professional Football Writers of America, the team announced on Monday.
Kraft becomes the first NFL owner and the first member of the Patriots organization to win the award, which is given annually to the player, coach or staff member who overcomes the most adversity en route to success. The 71-year old Kraft was instrumental in bringing about the end of the NFL lockout last July, just five days after the passing of his late wife, Myra.
Kraft spent last summer splitting time between his wife's hospital bed and the league's negotiations, and was given a lot of credit for helping the owners and players reach an agreement. He then helped to lead the Patriots into the Super Bowl during a season the team dedicated to Myra Kraft's memory.
