Patriots Offseason 2012: Tiquan Underwood Released By New England

The crowded New England Patriots wide receiving corps just became a little less so. The team has released Tiquan Underwood, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

Underwood, well known for his high-top fade haircut, appeared in six games for the Patriots during 2011, catching three passes for 30 yards.

This isn't the first time Underwood was released by the Patriots. He was cut the day before the Super Bowl in a move that caught most of the sports world by surprise. New England used the open roster spot to sign defensive end Alex Silvestro from the practice squad, but Silvestro did not play a single down in the Super Bowl. Underwood re-signed with the club two days after the Super Bowl.

After adding Brandon Lloyd and Anthony Gonzalez to an already-crowded receiving depth chart, the Patriots were going to need to make room somehow. Underwood appears to be the first casualty.
