Before his death by apparent suicide this morning, former New England Patriots player Junior Seau sent separate texts to his ex-wife and their three children (via UT-San Diego).
Seau reportedly texted "I love you" separately to his ex-wife, Gina Seau, and their three children on Tuesday night. Seau's ex-wife was shocked to hear the news.
"We're all in shock," she said. "We're beyond sad and beyond shocked. The kids and I are just huddled together at home. There is no way to make sense of this.
"I hope and pray everyone remembers what a wonderful man he was," she said.
Seau was found dead on May 2 in the bedroom of his Oceanside, California home by his girlfriend. Seau died from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. Seau was 43-years-old.
Seau played in the NFL for 20 years and for New England from 2006-2009. The 12-time Pro Bowl linebacker retired after the 2009 season in which he played seven games for the Patriots.
