Police have confirmed that Junior Seau was found dead at his house on Wednesday morning and that the death is being investigated as a suicide.
"Mr. Seau has deceased ... It is being investigated as a suicide," the police said as part of a statement released Wednesday afternoon.
Seau, 43, was found deceased inside his Oceanside, California home Wednesday morning after the police responded to a phone call at 9:35 a.m.
Reports have surfaced that Seau is suspected of dying after a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
In 2010, the 12-time Pro Bowl linebacker survived driving his car off a cliff, an incident that came just hours after he was released from police custody after a domestic abuse charge. Speculation arose that Seau was attempting suicide then, but he denied the rumors and said he simply fell asleep at the wheel.
