On Thursday, Wes Welker came out publicly, saying the contract negotiations between himself and the New England Patriots have "gotten worse".
One day later, Shalise Manza Young of the Boston Globe, is reporting that the Patriots were not too fond of Welker's comments.
According to a team source, Welker's decision to go public in recent weeks about negotiations has not gone over well with the Patriots; two weeks ago, when he made appearances on various ESPN programs, he made reference to holding out at least through full-team minicamp next month. His words have only increased the chances that 2012 will be his final season with the team.
The Patriots have a history of cutting ties with players at the perfect time. Between the contract talks and the subtle jabs at Rex Ryan publicly, last season – which the Pats were supposedly not pleased with – could be the writing on the wall for Welker's departure.
