NFL Draft 2012: Mike Lombardi Believes Patriots Should Hold On To Ryan Mallet

Never have quarterbacks been valued more towards the top of the NFL draft than they are today, but the Patriots managed to steal former Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett down in the third round of the 2011 draft as questions surrounding his attitude and character apparently steered teams away.

Now, with so many teams in the market for an upgrade at quarterback, Mallet would figure to be an attractive carrot to dangle for New England, with Tom Brady firmly entrenched as the starter for at least a few more years.

Mike Lombardi of the NFL Network doesn't believe the Patriots should move Mallet now, however, particularly with fellow backup Brian Hoyer set to be a free agent after 2012. Rather, he feels the Patriots ought to hold on to Mallett to find out exactly what type of player he will become down the road.
