One of the deepest offensive lines in the NFL just got deeper.
The NFL Network's Michael Lombardi reported Monday that the New England Patriots have agreed to a deal with free agent offensive lineman Roberty Gallery, who played for the Seattle Seahawks in 2011.
Gallery, 32, was the No. 2 selection in the 2004 NFL Draft and one of the most-prized left tackle prospects ever, but quickly moved to guard as it became evident that he was over-hyped. He has nonetheless become a dependable, versatile offensive lineman who produces when healthy.
As the Patriots blog Pats Pulpit mentions, acquiring Gallery is a low risk, high reward move. Despite struggling with injuries the past few seasons, Gallery has shown the ability to be one of the NFL's best guards and will provide insurance in case right guard Brian Waters retires.
Gallery was released by the Seahawks on Wednesday, March 14.
