Comcast SportsNet New England has issued an apology for running a Dick's Sporting Goods advertisement proclaiming the New England Patriots as Super Bowl XLVI champions which ran hours before the game during a Boston Celtics broadcast. The ad ran two times before the network pulled the ad after realizing it was not supposed to be run yet.
Skip Perham, the Director of Marketing of Comcast SportsNet New England and NECN, issued a statement on behalf of the network apologizing for running the advertisement, which he sent to SB Nation Boston in an email on Monday night.
"A Dick's Sporting Goods spot recognizing the New England Patriots as Super Bowl Champions ran inadvertently on Comcast SportsNet during the Celtics telecast prior to yesterday's Super Bowl. The airing of this spot was a Comcast SportsNet error and was in no way the fault of Dick's Sporting Goods. We identified the issue immediately and pulled the spot. We apologize to Dick's Sporting Goods, their customers and our viewers for this error."
Mistakes happen in the sports media world, as they do in every day life. Still, it is encouraging to see companies owning up to their errors. In the end, no harm, no foul. Comcast SportsNet New England is one of the region's only all sports network, and in addition to serving as the television home of the Boston Celtics and New England Revolution, the station provides excellent coverage of all of New England's professional, college and even high school sports.
