Mark Herzlich, a Boston College graduate and a cancer survivor, will be inactives for the New York Giants, as an ankle injury will keep him out of Super Bowl XLVI as his team takes on the New England Patriots at 6:29 p.m. EDT on Sunday.
Herzlich has not played since November with the ankle injury but had hoped to play in the Super Bowl. The absence of Herzlich in the Super Bowl is devastating for Boston College fans, as Herzlich has represented the school so very well.
Herzlich had 12 tackles in his first season with the Giants in 11 games as a rookie.
Joining Herzlich on the Giants' inactives list are Ramses Barden, Da'Rel Scott, Jim Cordle, Jimmy Kennedy, James Brewer and Justin Trattou. For the Patriots, Ryan Mallett, Kevin Faulk, Shane Vereen, Gary Guyton, Donald Thomas, Nick McDonald and Ron Brace are all inactive. Brace is also a Boston College graduate.
Rob Gronkowski and Chad Ochocinco will both suit up and play for the Patriots.
