Tiquan Underwood Released By Patriots Less Than 24 Hours Before Super Bowl 2012

There's no NFL franchise that treats the football more like a business than the New England Patriots, and they proved it against Saturday, a night before Super Bowl 2012, when they released wide receiver Tiquan Underwood and promoted defensive end Alex Silversto.

"I am told there were not disciplinary reasons for the move," wrote the Boston Herald's Patriots blog Saturday night. "Underwood did not do anything wrong, and I expect him to be back next year. But perhaps they wanted another defensive linemen on the field."

The Herald also said the move almost guaranteed that wide receiver Chad Ochocino will be on the Patriots active roster when they face the New York Giants in Super Bowl 46 in Indianapolis, IN (6:30 p.m. ET on NBC).

Underwood is still expected to earn a Super Bowl ring if the Patriots win.
