Patriots' NT Vince Wilfork: 'We Have To Do A Better Job Of Making Plays Early'

The New England Patriots defense knows that it needs to start making things happen sooner in games as the season switches to the playoffs. Patriots nose tackle Vince Wilfork is in the middle of the action. Today he discussed the state of the defense:

"We have to do a better job of making plays early." Wilfork said. "We have to keep preaching it. Sooner or later, we have to start figuring it out and having it click early on. We can't wait until the second quarter or third or fourth series. We have to keep practicing, and hopefully we can get it." (via WEEI.com)

Wilfork was adamant that the team can get better.

"This game is decided on scoring points and being able to take the ball away," Wilfork said. "Can we get better? Absolutely. Can we knock down yardage [given up]? Absolutely. It is what it is, but we have to do a better job."

If the Patriots are going to make a playoff run, it will help if the defense improves against quality opponents. New England lost both times they played a regular season opponent with a winning record (Steelers and Giants). The Pats conceded at least 24 points and 361 yards of offense in those losses.
