The Patriots couldn't live with field goals forever, and the Ravens have shown them why, taking their first lead of the game on a 29-yard catch-and-run from who Torrey Smith.
The New England defense had plenty of opportunities to stop the Ravens along the way, but never once managed to pick up that last stop to hold the Ravens. Facing a 3rd-and-11 from their own 40, Flacco found Lee Evans on the right side for 13 and a first. On the very next series, needing six yards, it was Pitta once again making the grab to hurt the Patriots. And sure enough, facing a third straight third, Flacco found Smith.
This time, however, it wasn't going to stop with the first. Shedding one tackle just shy of the required yardage, Smith took off towards the end zone, and with a fistful of Devin McCourty's facemask, leapt past the pylon with ball in hand for the touchdown and the 17-16 lead.
With Danny Woodhead having just fumbled the kickoff, things don't seem to be getting any better for New England, either.
