Matt Light Reportedly Close To Re-Signing With New England Patriots

According to Greg A. Bedard of the Boston Globe, the New England Patriots are close to resigning free agent left tackle Matt Light.

Bedard hears that Light's deal could be done by the end of the day Thursday. Light's reported return to New England would solidify the left side of the Patriots' offensive line.

With guard Logan Mankins already back in the fold, Light's return will give the Patriots the veteran left side of the line that has protected quarterback Tom Brady for much of his career. (via Boston Globe)

Light's expected return to the Patriots would also buy time for the development of offensive tackle Nate Solder, who was the team's first round pick in this year's draft. Solder will likely spend a few years on the Patriots bench and would continue his development under Light.

Matt Light's possible return would also take the pressure off right tackle Sebastian Vollmer, who was expected to make the transition to left tackle with only two years in the league. All and all, this is a great move if the Patriots do bring back Light.
