With the 28th pick in the sixth round of the(No. 194 overall), the New England Patriots have selected Markell Carter, and outside linebacker from Central Arkansas. Carter, a 6'4", 248-pound senior, played four seasons at Central Arkansas.
Carter had 62 tackles (25 solo) and 5.5 sacks for 58 yards for the Bears in 2010. In addition, Carter had one pass break up and seven quarterback hurries to go along with three forced fumbles for Centreal Arkansas.
In drafting Carter, Bill Belichick and the Patriots passed over local standout Mark Herzlich, who remains undrafted deep into the sixth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Herzlich totaled 314 tackles and 11 interceptions in his career at Boston College.
