2011 NFL Draft Results: Surprises Abound In First Round Thursday Night

The first round of the 2011 NFL Draft is in the books, and as was expected, Cam Newton was the No. 1 overall pick. The Carolina Panthers took him with their selection, getting what they hope is their quarterback of the future. But many of the NFL Draft results were not as status quo.

The Atlanta Falcons traded up to get WR Julio Jones. The Tennessee Titans took Jake Locker, QB from Washington, in perhaps the first round's biggest surprise. Auburn's Nick Fairley fell to No. 13 (Detroit Lions), and Clemson defensive end Da'Quan Bowers fell so far that he's still available, expected to be one of the first second-round picks taken.

The New England Patriots used their No. 17 pick on Colorado OG Nate Solder, and then opted to trade their No. 28 pick to New Orleans in exchange for the Saints second rounder (No. 56 overall) and their first-round pick in 2012.

In the AFC East, the Buffalo Bills took Alabama DL Marcell Dareus (No. 2 overall), the Miami Dolphins grabbed Florida's Mike Pouncey (No. 15) and the New York Jets drafted Muhammad Wilkerson, a DT out of Temple.
