2011 NFL Draft: Patriots Eyeing Running Back On Day Two

Will the Patriots in the market for a running back in the upcoming NFL Draft? That's the conclusion that Pats Pulpit's Greg Knopping has come to after looking at the players they've shown interest in over the past month.

Knopping lists eight running backs who the Patriots have either shown interest in at an event, or held a private workout with. As a possible first rounder, Mikel LeShoure out of Illinois is the most impressive name on the list of players the Patriots have worked out, for the most part the candidates are projected as second or third round picks.

It would seem a bit odd for the Patriots to target a running back after 2010 saw a pair of possible breakout years from BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Danny Woodhead. But with neither player having been particularly impressive before the season, Bill Belichick might be looking to insure himself against regression.

With two picks in each of the first three rounds, the Patriots would have the room to both fill many of their needs and add shore up some positions with less need. Still, all talent being equal, the team might want to put their faith in the duo that provided them with one of the best ground games in the league last year and go all-in to fix their offensive and defensive lines.
