Patriots Vs. Jets: Green-Ellis, Dominant Defense Fuel Pats To 7-0 1st Quarter Lead

These two teams have seen each other so often now that they can almost finish each others sentences. The Patriots have a 7-0 lead thanks to a three yard Benjarvus Green-Ellis touchdown run, but the defenses have been the story in the first quarter.

The Patriots deferred after winning the toss and promptly forced a three and out. The Patriots turned around and were forced to punt after just four plays. It was the first time that they had failed to score on their opening possession this season.

After another three and out for the Jets, deep in their own end, the Patriots broke through on offense. Tom Brady found Wes Welker deep over the middle for 32 yards, to put the ball on the Jets 27.

From their it was the Benjarvus Green-Ellis show. He covered the final 27 yards on just four carries including a three yard TD run where he dragged two Jets players into the end zone.

Since then, it’s been all defense from both sides. The Jets are getting consistent pressure on Tom Brady, while the Pats defense is consistently stuffing the Jets running attack.
