With the New England Patriots defense struggling to develop an effective pass rush, there efforts just got a little bit tougher. On Thursday, the team announced that they had placed 2010 sack leader and defensive end Mike Wright on the season ending injured reserve list.
Wright, 29, suffered his second concussion in as many games when he went down during week one against the Miami Dolphins. He sustained a severe concussion last year against the Pittsburgh Steelers that ultimately caused him to miss the rest of the season. Before he went down, Wright was a strong point in the relatively weak Patriots pass rush last season with a team high 5.5 sacks.
Since going down against Miami, Wright missed three weeks of practice before making his way back onto the field late last week before the team battled the New York Jets. Despite practicing, Wright was not activated for the game, a clear sign that he wasn't quite ready to return to game action.
