Yes, Florida's Urban Meyer is stepping down as the team's head coach. Again. In his official statement (before Wednesday night's press conference at 6 p.m. EST), Meyer said that " it is time to put my focus on my family and life away from the field."
↵Meyer and Bill Belichick have been friends since he took the job at Florida, with the two have trading visits during the offseasons to talk shop.
↵↵↵Belichick and Meyer opened their lines of communication soon after Meyer took the job at Florida. Meyer answered his cellphone one day and the voice on the other end said, "Hi, this is Bill Belichick."
↵
Meyer has said he considers himself a protégé of the three-time Super Bowl winner. And Belichick clearly likes the work Meyer did as a coach -- the Patriots have five former Gators on their roster, including recently drafted rookies Brandon Spikes, Aaron Hernandez and Jermaine Cunningham.
↵Already, speculation has Meyer taking over in Denver, where Josh McDaniels was recently fired, a move that would reunite him with Tim Tebow. It's also a move not based in any fact.
