Randy Moss' Release From Vikings Surprised Some In Organization

On Monday, less then 24 hours he made public his love for Bill Belichick and the Patriots, Randy Moss was waived by the Vikings. Brad Childress told his team in a meeting that he was releasing the wide receiver, and many within the organization were surprised, with one source saying "it was like a double-shot of pure caffeine," according to Yahoo! Sports' Jason Cole.

That same source added, "Really, I thought he was joking, then I realized it was Chilly and he doesn't joke. Well, he jokes, but it's not funny."

Another Vikings' source told Cole that he thought Childress was kidding, saying, "This is nuts. We're just getting to the point where he's getting on page with [quarterback] Brett [Favre] and the offense is starting to really move the ball and then we do this."

When it was brought to their attention that Moss only had 13 catches for two touchdowns in four games with Minnesota, both sources were quick to point that the numbers don't tell the whole story of Moss' value.

"Look at the tape. Look at the coverages," one of the sources said. "Look at what he does for everybody else. Percy [Harvin] is running free all over the field right now. The running game is moving along. I don't even care about the fact that he's smarter than everybody on the coaching staff. He's a game-changer.

"Make it work."

And Cole points out, the Vikings averaged 21.5 points the four games with Moss, compared to just 14.3 points before he got there.

In all, it seems to be just another example of Childress' failings as a head coach.
