Hobey Baker finalist Spencer Abbott’s ability to play in the NCAA Northeast Regional was questioned all week due to an injury suffered in last week’s Hockey East Tournament. But Abbott showed he was more than ready to play when he took the ice in Worcester against Minnesota-Duluth and put the Black Bears up 1-0 after the first period.
Abbott scored on Minnesota-Duluth goalie Kenny Reiter 17 minutes into the first period. Abbott’s linemate Brian Flynn and defenseman Will O’Neill had the helpers on the power play goal.
Minnesota-Duluth gave up three power play opportunities to Maine in the first period. Maine put 14 shots on net in the first, and Minnesota-Duluth made 9 shots.
The game is currently airing on Fox College Sports Pacific and ESPN3.com.
