Beanpot 2012, BC Vs. Northeastern: Eagles Decimate Huskies, 7-1

BOSTON - Boston College let Northeastern hang around for one period, carrying a one goal lead into the second, but the Eagles erupted for four goals in the final two periods to complete a rout of the Huskies, 6-1, in the semifinal round of the 2012 Beanpot on Monday night at TD Garden.

Boston College will face Boston University, which defeated Harvard 3-1 in its semifinal game, in the Beanpot championship game next Monday night at 7:30 p.m. EDT (NESN). Northeastern, meanwhile, will play Harvard in the consolation game at 4:30 p.m. EDT (NESN).

Paul Carey scored the game's first goal at 5:14 of the opening period. Carey's goal was his eighth of the season and was assisted by Johnny Gaudreau (10) and Pat Mullane (19). Gaudreau added his first goal of the night at 9:43 of the same period (unassisted, shorthanded), putting BC up by two goals early.

Anthony Beitetto accounted for the Huskies' only goal of the night, scoring with a 5-on-3 advantage at 12:34 of the first. The power play goal was assisted by Ludwig Karlsson (15) and Garrett Vermeersch (12), cutting the BC lead to one goal.

In the second period, the Eagles put three goals on the board. Steven Whitney scored twice, once at 6:51 (assisted by Barry Almeida (9) and Patch Alber (6)) and again at 13:11 (unassisted). Meanwhile, Gaudreau netted his second and final goal at 8:58 (assisted by Alber (7) and Pat Mullane (20)).

Almeida scored his 17th goal at 8:47 of the third period (assisted by Brian Dumolin (18) and Whitney (13)). Carey capped off the scoring with his eight tally of the campaign, assisted by Isaac MacLeod (4) and Edwin Shea (4)) to complete the monster victory for the Eagles.
