Beanpot 2012: Boston University Defeats Harvard, 3-1, In Semifinals

BOSTON - Wade Megan scored two goals in the second period to lead the No.1/3 ranked Boston University Terriers past the Harvard Crimson, 3-1, in the semifinal round of the 2012 Beanpot on Monday evening inside TD Garden.

Boston University's victory sets up a date with the winner of the Boston College Eagles and Northeastern Huskies, who will battle at 8:00 p.m. EDT in the second semifinal tilt, in the Beanpot Championship game next Monday at 7:30 p.m. EDT.

Megan's first goal came at 7:30 of the middle period (assisted by Sean Escobedo and Sahir Gill) and his second strike came at 14:02 of the period, assisted by Gill, to put the Terriers on top 3-0. Alex Killorn, the Crimson's points leader, scored the only goal of the game for Harvard on a power play at 15:27 of the second period. Matt Nieto scored Boston University's first goal of the game at 8:14 of the opening period, assisted by both Alex Chiason and Escobedo.

Kieran Millan was solid in net, turning away 29 shots. Steve Michalek had 14 saves but was pulled in the second period for Raphael Girard, who totaled eight saves between the pipes for Harvard.

Harvard will face the loser of Boston College and Northeastern in the consolation game.
