One day after the New England Patriots and New York Giants met in a rematch of Super Bowl XLII, the Boston College Eagles and Northeastern Huskies will meet in a rematch of their own in the semifinal round of the 2012 Beanpot tournament at 8:00 p.m. EDT on Monday night at TD Garden in Boston, MA (TV: NESN).
Boston College is the defending Beanpot champion and possesses a 69-49 all-time record in the Beanpot. The Eagles have appeared in 31 championship games, winning 16 of them. Last season, the Eagles edged rival Boston University, 3-2, in overtime of the tournament opener before besting Northeastern 7-6 in a thriller to claim the Beanpot title.
The Eagles (16-10-1, 12-7-1 HEA) hold a 29-8 advantage against the Huskies (11-11-3, 7-11-2 HEA) in the first round of the Beanpot, and Monday's game between the two schools marks the 41st time that the two schools will meet in the Beanpot. BC has a 31-9 lead in that series. In the overall series, the Eagles and Huskies have met 215 total times, with BC holding a 154-47-14 edge in the all-time series.
Under legendary head coach Jerry York, the Eagles have won five Beanpot championships while posting a 22-12 record. In 11 tournament championship games, Boston College has posted a 5-6 record under the guidance of York.
Boston College has defeated Northeastern three times this season by a margin of three goals (8-5). In the last two meetings, the Eagles posted 2-1 victories after winning 4-3 in overtime in the season series opener in late October.
Chris Kreider leads the Eagles with 30 points and is tied for the team lead in goals with 16. Kreider also has 14 assists. Barry Almeida has 16+8=24 and Bill Arnold has 12+11=23. Goalie Parker Milner has a2.39 goals against average (GAA) and a .904 save percentage in 17 games for BC.
Ludwig Karlsson has a team-leading 23 points (nine goals, 14 assists) for Northeastern. Steve Quailer has 6+14=22 and Branden Pimm has 9+10=19 for the Huskies. Goaltender Chris Rawlings has a 2.51 GAA and a .922 save percentage.
