Beanpot 2012: Boston University Takes On Harvard In Opener

Boston University and Harvard will open the 2012 Beanpot tournament when the two school meet at 5:00 p.m. EDT on Monday night at TD Garden in Boston, MA (NESN). The game is a rematch of last year's Beanpot consolation game.

The Terriers have won a tournament record 29 championships while compiling a tournament-best 84-34 record since the Beanpot began back in 1952. The Terriers have appeared in a record 48 title games and have scored 548 goals while allowing a tournament-low 368 goals. Harvard is 49-69 overall with 10 championships in 25 title games.

Boston University is 16-8-1 overall this season and leads Hockey East with a 13-6-1 conference mark. The Terriers, who are ranked No. 3 in the nation in the latest USCHO.com Top 25 poll, have met the Crimson 144 times and own a 75-63-6 record in the all-time series. BU and Harvard met three weeks ago, with the Crimson jumping ahead 3-1 early but surrendering the lead as the Terriers came back to post a thrilling 4-3 victory in overtime on the road.

BU has three players tied for the team lead in points, with Alex Chiasson, Chris Connolly and Matt Nieto all owning 26 points. Megan leads the Terriers with 12 goals while Adam Clendening and Connolly are tied for the team lead in assists with 22 apierce. Goaltender Kieran Millan has a 2.50 goals against average (GAA) and a .923 save percentage for BU.

Harvard (7-6-9, 6-4-7 ECACHL) is led in points by Alex Killorn, who has 29. Killorn leads the team with 14 goals, seven power play goals, three game-winning goals and a totla of 108 shots. Steve Michaelk has a 3.02 GAA and a .900 save percentage in 21 game.
