The Connecticut Huskies and Maryland Terrapins will square off on Saturday afternoon at Byrd Stadium in College Park, Md., in a non-conference affair.
The Huskies are 1-1 on the season, blowing out the UMass Minutemen 37-0 in their opener before capitulating to the N.C. State Wolfpack 10-7 last weekend. UConn had its chances against N.C. State, but ultimately lost due to four turnovers in a contest that saw very equal statistics posted otherwise.
On the plus side, UConn's run defense remained terrific, yielding only 54 rushing yards and 1.3 yards per carry. On the minus side, the Huskies managed 35 ground yards on 32 carries themselves.
The Terrapins are undefeated despite having to gut out a pair of wins against perceived lesser teams in the William & Mary Tribe and Temple Owls.
Against Temple, Maryland owned a 26-3 halftime lead before letting much of the advantage evaporate after giving up a couple of long passing plays. The Terrapins held on 36-29, however, and have flashed the ability to shut down their opposition on the ground, holding the Owls to 52 yards on 39 carries.
