2012 Women's NCAA Tournament, Notre Dame Vs. Baylor: Two No. 1 Teams Play For Championship

The 2012 Women's NCAA Tournament will conclude Tuesday night. The Baylor Lady Bears, the overall No. 1 seed in the tournament, will attempt to make history by becoming the only NCAA team to get 40 victories in a season. Another No. 1 seed, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, are 35-3 this season and are a familiar opponent for Baylor as the teams met in the Preseason NIT.

Notre Dame is playing in their second consecutive championship game after losing to Texas A&M last season. Baylor won the NCAA title in their only other Final Four appearance in 2005.

To get to the championship, Baylor defeated UC Santa Barbara, Florida, Georgia Tech, Tennessee and Stanford. Notre Dame was victorious against Liberty, California, St. Bonaventure, Maryland and UConn in the earlier rounds. With the Final Four win over UConn, the Irish made up for their loss in the Big East Championship against the Huskies.

Baylor is led by 6-8 junior Brittney Griner. Notre Dame is led by All-American Skylar Diggins. Both players had big games for their teams in the first meeting. Baylor won that game by 13 points. Will the final be any different?
