UConn Football: Chandler Whitmer Leads White To 14-5 Victory

Before the Connecticut Huskies annual Blue-White Spring Football game, the big storyline was the wide open quarterback competition. Last year's starter, Johnny McEntee, was thought of to be the favorite, but following the White's 14-5 victory over Blue, a different quarterback may have emerged as the favorite for the starting gig.

Chandler Whitmer, a junior college transfer, finished the game with 187 passing yards and two touchdowns. He completed 18 of his 27 pass attempts, took one sack and threw one interception, as he led White to a nine point win. The three other quarterbacks combined to complete 14 passes in 38 attempts, threw zero touchdowns, three interceptions, and were sacked a total of eight times.

It's just one game, but Whitmer stood head and shoulders above his competition for starting quarterback job.

Taylor Mack (one interception) and Ryan Wirth (4.5 sacks) had great performances on the defensive side of the ball.
