Alex Oriakhi To Transfer From UConn

UConn foward/center Alex Oriakhi made his decision to transfer known on Wednesday.

Connecticut Huskies forward/center Alex Oriakhi will be transferring before next season (via CT Post).

Oriakhi could be eligible to play next season immediately without having to sit out a season after he transfers. The Huskies are currently facing a 2013 postseason ban by the NCAA due to low APR. Oriakhi's father says that his son intends to transfer whether or not UConn's postseason ban is lifted and also that his son will not enter the NBA Draft. No potential destination for Oriakhi is known at this time.

Oriakhi began his UConn career in 2009 and was a key player in that season and in the 2011 National Championship season. Oriakhi saw his minutes slashed this past season with the addition of highly touted freshman center Andre Drummond. Oriakhi scored 789 points in three years for the Huskies and averaged 7.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game in 25.3 minutes per game.

Oriakhi might not be the only departure for UConn given the postseason ban and the unknown status of head coach Jim Calhoun for next season.
