UConn RB Lyle McCombs Named FWAA Freshman All-American

Connecticut Huskies freshman running back Lyle McCombs was named to the Football Writers Association of America's Freshman All-America team today (via Sportswriters.net). McCombs, a true freshman, joins North Carolina's Giovani Bernard as the running back for the All-America team.

McCombs led the Huskies in rushing this season with 1,151 yards (4.2 yards per carry) and 7 rushing touchdowns. McCombs also caught 19 passes for 172 yards and a touchdown. His eight touchdowns ranked him second on the team in points behind kicker Dave Teggart. McCombs also led UConn in all-purpose yards with 110.2 per game.

Both true freshman and redshirt freshman were eligible for the team. Kansas State and USC were the only schools which had more than one selection on the team with two players each.

McCombs was also named to the All-Big East second team offense this past season.
