The Notre Dame Fighting Irish had won 29 consecutive home games coming into this morning's matinee against the 16th ranked Connecticut Huskies. 40 minutes later the Irish's impressive streak was snapped, as they fell to the Huskies by a final score of 67-53.
The Huskies trailed 25-24 at halftime, but exploded in the second half for 43 points. The Huskies were led by a balanced attack with six or their eight players scoring at least six points. Shabazz Napier led the Huskies with 16 points but Notre Dame's Eric Atkins scored a game-high 20 in a losing effort.
The Hsukies improve to 14-3 on the season and 4-2 in the Big East, but still trail the number one ranked Syracuse Orange by 1.5 games in the conference standings. The two teams first meet on February 11 in Syracuse. Connecticut's next game is January 18 against the Cincinnati Bearcats.
