Led by Kemba Walker, Connecticut controlled their second round matchup with Georgetown for a majority of the game and cruised to a 79-62 win over the Hoyas in the opening game on day two at the 2011 Big East Tournament. Walker finished with 28 points and eight rebounds, his fourth straight game with at least 22 points.
The Hoyas were paced by Jason Clark and Austin Freeman who combined to score 43 of Georgetown's 62 points.
The wins means that UConn, the tournament's No. 9 seed, will advance to play the No. 1 seeded Pittsburgh Panthers Thursday afternoon at 12 p.m. EST. For Georgetown, still without guard Chris Wright, it's their third straight loss, and fourth in the past five games. The Hoyas will now wait to see where they're placed in the NCAA Tournament, announced on Sunday, and hope that Wright is indeed able to return in time.
