The defending national champion UConn Huskies have fallen in the second round of the Battle 4 Atlantis to the UCF Knights. UConn was clearly a favorite to win this early season tournament in the Bahamas. After one half of play, the Huskies did not look to be in danger. UConn had a 38-29 lead.
Early in the second half, UConn extended the lead to 50-33. UCF's Keith Clanton hit a three with 14:46 left to play in the game and the Knights slowly got back into the game and got within double-digits of the Huskies. UCF's first lead of the second half came with 3:11 left to play when Marcus Jordan hit a pair of free throws to make it 58-57. UConn wouldn't lead again. UCF hit their free throws down the stretch and won the game 68-63. The Huskies were outscored 35-13 over the final 10 minutes of the game.
Alex Oriakhi came off the bench for the Huskies and had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Jeremy Lamb led UConn with 15 points but only shot 5-16 from the field. Freshman center Andre Drummond had 13 points and nine rebounds. UCF was paced by Marcus Jordan and Keith Clanton who both scored 20 points.
UConn will play either Harvard or Florida State in the third-place game at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
