After one week of the college basketball season, the UConn Huskies held onto their preseason spot at No. 4 in the AP poll.
UConn was one of three teams to receive first-place votes, with two. North Carolina led the poll, followed by Kentucky, Ohio State, UConn and Syracuse.
The Huskies began their season Friday with a 70-57 victory against Columbia. Jeremy Lamb scored 30 points, but Jim Calhoun was not impressed by his team's effort.
"I'm looking to the game when Jeremy's shot doesn't go and Shabazz has four fouls," Calhoun said. "Then what happens? ... Everyone is telling them we have a good front court. Really?"
"We were just awful," Calhoun said. "There's no other word to describe it. ... Once we get boxed out, we stay boxed out. I told them we should cancel weight training the rest of the year because it's not doing us any good."
