UConn football has a big mid-week game Wednesday night on ESPN at 8 p.m. The Huskies meet Pittsburgh in a battle of conference expansion rivals middling Big East football teams with matching 3-4 records.
Last week, UConn grabbed a 16-10 win against conference punching bag South Florida, temporarily ending a slide in which the Huskies lost four out of five games. The Panthers are familiar with losing streaks, having lost two straight games and four of their last five games. Ouch.
Despite these recent losses, the winner of this game will be in decent shape going forward with a .500 record, a winning mark in conference games and just two wins short of bowl eligibility.
The Panthers hopes rest with junior running back Ray Graham, who has the fifth-most rushing yards in the nation. and is tops in the Big East with 134 rushing yards per game. UConn also likes to run the football. Huskies running back Lyle McCombs is has the 29th-most rushing yards in the country.
With a win, the Huskies can exact a small measure of revenge on Pitt, which reportedly took UConn's spot in the ACC during the conference expansion gold rush.
